Franklin Guild Public School Programming Overview

REGULAR ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE, & HIGH SCHOOL PERFORMING ARTS CURRICULUM

ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL

Every Fall Semester:
During the fall semester, the Franklin Guild offers grade specific, professional arts programming by discipline. Annually, the Franklin Guild alternates cultural emphasis between American and international cultures.

Kindergarten, first grade, sixth grade - drama

Second grade, third grade, seventh grade - dance

Fourth grade, fifth grade, eighth grade - music

Every Spring Semester:
During the spring semester, the Franklin Guild provides arts enrichment programming for all the grade schools and the middle school in programs that visit each school.

For the past several years, the schools have requested and the Guild has funded a Jack Tale tour to all Franklin County elementary schools as well as the middle school.

HIGH SCHOOL
Franklin Guild High School programming consists of workshops and exhibits as requested by the Franklin County High School faculty.

REGULAR PUBLIC PERFORMING ARTS ACTIVITIES
Frequent evening performances by artists visiting the schools.
Historically, an underwriter of the Blue Ridge Dinner Theatre.

The Franklin Guild offers Art on the Market the first Saturday each month where local artists are invited to exhibit their work at the Rocky Mount Farmers’ Market.

ART IN PUBLIC
The Guild offers a full schedule of public exhibits by local artists for 2005.  The Guild Gallery exhibits in the Franklin County Library.  Art in Public is an ongoing project of the guild working to encourage awareness of the arts in Franklin County and support the creative community.  Art in Public makes art accessible to the public and public space accessible for exhibiting Franklin County artists.

Even Start
Family Literacy Program
The Franklin Guild is a co-applicant with the Franklin County School System in EVEN START - Family Literacy Program.  The Guild Provides visual and performing arts experiences for parents and children enrolled in the program and regularly uses artists appearing in Guild school programming in workshop settings with Even Start.

2005 School Programs
Drama:  "Alias Don Quixote" for the 6th grade using several older middle or high school students, "Daring to Dream" for K, 1st grade students and the public, and an untitled, informal workshop with Even Start For more information, see http://www.activated-storytellers.com

Dance: , three school performances around the theme "First Language: Sharing the Movement Vocabulary of Cultures" for grades 2, 3, and 7 with a title and pre-performance materials for teachers to follow  one public performance at 3:00 of approximately one-hour.
